How is Bowls played?

Bowls for members normal games are played either as Pairs (2 players on each team, with each player playing with 4 bowls), or Triples (3 players on each team, with each player playing with 3 bowls). Games are over 21 ends (an “end” is the playing of all bowls by all players from one end to the other) with usually a 3 hour plus duration. At the completion of each end, scores are counted with the team having the nearest bowl(s) to the jack (the small white ball) scoring 1 point for each of those bowls.
Club Championships include Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours.
Bowling events for businesses or social groups is a shortened and simplified form of the game with duration to suit the time available.

Want to play a game of Lawn Bowls?

The cost of hiring the club for bowls is $15 per person which includes games of bowls, hire of bowls, tuition to get you started and use of the Club.

If weather intervenes and bowling is not possible but the function or team building program still proceeds we reduce the cost to $7 per person. Generally a game of Lawn Bowls with food last at least 3 hours. There are also 1 hour and 2 hour bowling only price options.

Usually there is a small percentage of attendees who don’t bowl unless there are directives by the management or teams are preselected. When teams are preselected there might be an elimination structure with playoff finals and prizes as encouragement.

Catering: We don’t provide food on site but allow you to self cater inc disposable plates etc. Drinks must be purchased at the club.We can recommend Chargrill Charlies of High St Willoughby (9958 4094 ask for Peter or Manfred) who have a wide range of menus and price ranges and supply events at the Club regularly. While we do have a BBQ ($1 per person extra usage charge) which you could use – to have everything arrive prepared for you, considering the number likely to attend – is so much simpler. Dial up Pizza is also a simple option – try Crust at Willoughby 9417 7755. Or you may have your own preferred caterer. Some groups bring nibbles etc if not wanting an extensive meal.

Drinks:For costing expect people to have at least 3 drinks over that period – 3 soft drinks $9, 3 wines $12, 3 draft beers $15 or 3 specialty beers $18 – so $15 per person over that time is probably a reasonable average. We normally run a bar tab for this type of event, however you can have individual sale. Spirit drinks are not usually served at these events.

Payment:must be made on the day or known components can be prepaid – if by eftpos its Visa or Mastercard only. Please request a Tax Invoice if needed for your accounts system prior to the event.

Music: We can discuss how you want the venue to operate and look e.g. room layout/appearance. We have a PA system that an i-pod/phone/pad can be attached to with speakers for outside.
Depending on the weather, hats or caps might be advisable.

People can play barefoot but flat soled shoes are safer. In winter a start no later than 2pm is best (as the sun goes off the green by 3.30pm) as is a 5pm start during daylight saving (to avoid the heat of the day).
